To Kill A Mocking Bird

By Harper Lee

NLB Call No: LEE

An all-time classic, which is narrated through the eyes of an 8 year-old child, Scout. It depicts the heroism of Atticus Finch, standing up for what he knows is right and finally in Scout's hard-won understanding that most people are essentially kind. This is a tough and tender novel of race, class, justice, and the pain of growing up.

  1. Truly worthy of the Pulitzer Prize won by Harper Lee. Accurate portrayal of the American Deep South - Alabama and the social mores of that time. Watch the great movie too! - Submitted by K.M. (27 May 05)

  2. A gentle book - nevertheless hard hitting on racism and the ugliness of it in the small town that Jem, Scout and their father lived. I enjoyed the novel tremendously and think that the novel speaks to us today, maybe even more so today, despite being set in the Deep South of the USA in the 1930s. - Submitted by reader L.P. This is my first time reading the book. I am very impressed by Atticus. I think I learnt what is true courage. Real courage doesn't mean must fight and win, but being strong in our hearts and minds. This is now my favourite book.

  4. If you can get hold of the 1962 movie by the same name, it'll be great! I am 25 and managed to somehow get my hands on it. It won some Oscars I think and gave me another perspective from how I would have imagined it. After all, the time and place are so far off an experience I would not have a good understanding of.
